Historical Graduation Ceremony on Emotional Literacy -2009

 The graduation ceremony was held in the august gathering by lighting the traditional Oil Lamp by the Chief Guest in an academic environment on 14 March, 2009 at Nepal Academy, Kamaladi, Kathmandu, Nepal. WWA presented its second historical graduation ceremony with the presence of Prof. Dr. Tulasi Ram Vaidya, Vice-Chancellor, Lumbini Bauddha University who was honored as chief guest in the ceremony. Mr. D.M. Basnet, Founder President of WWA was Chairman of the program. Likewise, Associate Prof. Dr. Shishir Subba, Asst. Dean, Faculty of Humanity and Social Sciences, Tribhuvan University, Prof. Dr. M.P. Regmi, Chief Advisor, Advisory Committee, WWA, Dr. Laxman Shakya, Sr. Program Coordinator, WWA, Ms. Manju Karki Lamichhene, Founder Principal, Future Stars High School, Mr. Subodh Sudhakar Rijal, Principal, Eureka High School, Mr. Jeevan Raj Panthy, Principal, Buddha Jyoti Academy, Mr. Surya Prakash Adhikari, Vice Principal, WWA, Mr. Bharat Giri, Secretary, WWA, Ms. Ranjita Maskey, Treasurer, WWA were invited as guests. The program’s main objective was to present certificates to the graduate students upon the completion of their Life Without Anger Education Program on Emotional Literacy.

The Honoring ceremony began with the reading of a message from Dr. Dean Van Leuven, Founder Patron of WWA. He was unable to attend the program personally to speak about his philosophy of emotional literacy and his unending intellectual support for WWA. However his message was read by the M.C. The highlights of his message were: “WWA has introduced emotional literacy training since 2007 through the educational system, so that everyone can learn the necessary skills to optimize their life experience on the emotional level. Once we have learned these lessons, not only will it be possible for each individual to maximize his personal life experience, but it will also make it possible for our world societies to live in peace with each other. When we learn to live in peace this allows our world societies to work together and use our great intellectual skills more effectively to provide a peaceful and prosperous life for all individuals and all nations on this planet.”
Accordingly, 230 students participated in the three months training program from the four schools, namely: Future Stars High School, Buddha Jyoti Academy, Third Eye Academy, and Little Flowers Public School.

Some of the program schools’ students, principals, and teachers spoke about their use and benefits of the LWAEP in the Ceremony. They all highlighted its significant in their personal life and in society to create peace and life without anger in the workplace and day to day working environment.

In the ceremony, program schools also offered cultural programs in order to make the program very interesting and memorable. Certificates were presented to the graduating students, SEWA’s volunteers, and the program school teachers from the different schools by the Vice-Chancellor of the Lumbini Bauddha University, Prof Dr. Tulasi Ram Vaidya. Dr. Vaidya praised the noble idea of emotional intelligence training and stated that Lumbini Bauddha University is happy to work with WWA who has pushed forward these ideas because the objectives of WWA are the same as Lumbini Bauddha University. He also added that he always opens the door of Lumbini Bauddha University to collaborate possible works in the days ahead with WWA. At the function, Chief Advisor of WWA Prof. Dr. M.P. Regmi said that though emotional intelligence is hard to bring into practice it is most important to do so. Assistant Dean, T.U., Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Dr. Shisir Subba lauded WWA’s effort of training children into such a practical ideas.

Mr. Surya Prakash Adhikari, Vice President, WWA and Mukunda Sharma, Program Coordinator highlighted the program of WWA. Likewise, Dr. Laxman Shakya, Sr. Program Coordinator, WWA delivered a vote of thanks to the guests in the program.

Mr. D.M. Basnet, President, WWA highlighted in his concluding remarks that graduate students will be the source of knowledge of Emotional Literacy in the country. They will able to share this knowledge and experience with their family members, neighbors, community, zonal, nation and the globe for the sake of their inner peace and life without anger for every individual.

Also at the function, awards were presented to the students who had made it to the top 25 in the worldwide essay in the peace education program organized by Goi Peace Foundation and UNESCO. Nepalese students Ms. Asmita Dhakal(Age 13) of Eureka High School, Balaju, and Ms.Ananya Shrestha(Age 13) of Little Angels’ School, Hattiban, Lalitpur were winners of “Honorable Mention” from the International Essay Contest for Young People-2008. This program was possible for Nepal with the heartiest cooperation from Ms. Masami Miyazaki of Goi Peace Foundation, Japan.

To make this program successful, there were numerous contributors like the Center for Spiritual Living, Eugene, Center for Spiritual Living – Men’s Group, K.G. Smith, USA, Hadhok Restaurant and also the great supporters of WWA, Program Schools, and Principals. Founder Principal Ms. Manju Karki Lamichhene of Future Stars High School generously announced a donation of NRs.10, 000.00 to WWA to support its continued work.


Historical Graduation Ceremony – 2008

 The Graduation Ceremony was organized on March 29, 2008 by WWA for 180 graduate students from two private and one government school at Laboratory Higher Secondary School, Kirtipur. 180 students from three program school  were trained on Life Without Anger Education Program (LWAEP) on Emotional Intelligence which was conducted at three schools from November 2007.

The day’s Chief Guest was Mr. Tap Raj Pant, National Program Officer, United Nations Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It was the first milestone of WWA which was able to organize so difficult task in this crucial time. Since then there was not yet any funding organizations to make WWA’s this difficult task became possible within its stipulated time.

The program was very much interesting and everyone was also recognized the program was significant and matter-of-fact in day to day life of human well beings.

Life Without Anger Education Program (LWAEP) teaches children life skills in empathy, program solving, impulse control, and anger management. These lessons not only improve social skills in the classroom, they offer guidelines for effective, respectful behavior throughout a lifetime and world society. The program was strategically conducted in the urban, semi urban and rural places of Kathmandu valley for getting the feedback of the pilot phase program.

The ceremony was fully successful and fruitful because every participated students and teachers and respected guests and audience were presented to observe the program. The main objective of the program is to award certificates to the graduated students as well as teachers also awarded by the certificates as the completion of the program in their respective schools.

Each of the students and teachers were given opportunity to share their experiences and life skills from each program school in the ceremony. Accordingly, every student addressed the program’s norms & values and its significant from their speech in the ceremony. Every student speech made everyone surprised on their learning skills and activities by the LWAEP training within the short period of time which was represented by the speeches.

The program was held in the formal manner as if all the distinguish guests along with Chief Guest were sitting in the Dias. The program was inaugurated by lighting the auspicious lamp with the National Anthem by the Chief Guest. Badges distribution to the guests was done by Ms. Ranjita Acharya, Treasurer, WWA, Ms.Namita Karki and Uttara Tamang, Volunteers of WWA.
However, Mr. Surya Prakash Adhikari, Vice- President  addressed the program by welcome speech in the program. He focused on the importance of “ Life Without Anger programs. He added” It does help people to organize mind and soul”.

Without pre-notice in the program by Mr. Romos Lamichhane, M.C.  to the audiences made surprised that Dr. Dean Van Leuven, Patron, WWA had sent honoring ceremony message for graduation ceremony in the absence of him that created everyone curious to listen. In the meantime, Mr. Lamichhane was read Dr. Dean’ Message “The introduction of emotional skills training in the schools of Nepal through the WWA-Life Without Anger Training Program is a great moment that all of us here have an opportunity to be take part in. I congratulate all of you for having the vision to take this step that will enrich the personal life of each individual who participates as well as our entire world society.

Mr. Mukunda Pd. Sharma, Program Coordinator, WWA highlighted the program. Accordingly, he presented the programs and activities conducted by WWA for last 6 months. The training program was highly successful in schools as WWA’s pilot project so WWA believed these kinds of program will be organized in the days ahead in the rural and semi rural areas of remote places of Nepal. He had shown himself proud without funding from any funding agencies WWA- Nepal abled to organize such a wonderful program from WWA’s inauguration ceremony to graduation ceremony. He added, this would be the pioneer example to the society without funding also organization could attempt something by contributing time and little money by individuals. Now WWA strategies would be explored funding agencies from inside and outside the country.
Similarly, Mr. Pushpa Raj Paudel, Advisor, WWA spoke on the challenges so as to lunch the program in the present social context.

Mr. Shaligram Bhattarai, Advisor and trainer, WWA emphasized on personal management and psychological understanding to manage anger and get rid of negative emotions.

Mr. Purushottam Tiwari, Higer Secondary Coordinator, Laboratory Higher Secondary School said that he was so much delighted to speak few word in this great ceremony as taking part from his school. He would be grateful to conduct such interesting program in his school children if the WWA provide in future.

Asst.Prof. Dr. Shishir Subba, Asst. Dean of the Faculty of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences highlighted on the importance of Psycho social aspect of counseling in the rapidly changing world scenarios.

Prof. Dr. M.P. Regmi, Chief Advisor/ Trainer, WWA addressed on the every essential aspects of Emotional intelligence concept. He said”Emotions are a most to manage to make life worthy.
Students representative from Kalidevi Higher Secondary School, Kavrasthali VDC, Kathmandu Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and Future Stars High School spoke on the programs and its implication in the workplace would be benefited by the training program. They also added that this kind of programs should implement in the various schools to improve human’s life skills and day to day problem solving in the practical life.

Mr. Tap Raj Pant, National Program Officer, UNESCO, he was honored to be the Chief Guest of the ceremony. His graceful presence was very much significant and valuable as a symbol of milestone for WWA’s history. His presence really encouraged and added one more strength for entire work of WWA. Mr. Pant promised to collaborate with WWA, and scale up the activities ahead. According to his version that Anger and emotional type of program would be important for creating peace and harmony within the families, communities, nation, region and the globe.

Similarly, he distributed certificates and prizes all the graduates students and teachers in the ceremony.

Mr. DM Basnet, President, WWA, and the chairman of the program focused on the vision and mission of the organization. He said to expand the areas of Emotional Intelligence (EI) Education in the days ahead. This kind of inputs could be cornerstone for peace building mission for individuals, community, nation and the world.

At the last moment, Mr. Tap Raj Pant distributed the peace materials called Tool Kit for Inclusive Education and Children Friendly School prepared by UNESCO.

Finally there was beautiful refreshment which was sponsored by C.K. Imitation Jewelers and photo session in the Auditorium.
